INTERACTIVE FLOW OVER PORT

Maria Seliniotaki, Anastasia Milona, Christos Savva

This intervention taking place at the Limassol Marina Port does not work as a new added separate entity but as a layer implemented and merged within the existing conditions of the site, taking its spatial experience further. It is concentrated at the two main gates of the old port and spreads in the form of light structures floating in a flow all over the site indicating its domain reaching over the city and working as a landmark as well. People are inclusively invited to experience the site in a completely different way. Opportunities are created for interaction within the structures and the surrounding environment, social spaces to emerge within and new narratives to be manifested.

It consists of a series of interactive structures of following a similar irregular-shape typology, evolving in different scales, structural systems and materiality, concentrated on the gates but expanding through the whole site, reacting to the surrounding environment’s conditions. Included into the system are structures that embody the notion of the flow of the water and the motion of the wind and as the main elements of the port’s environment can transform themselves according to the site conditions, becoming part of it while forming an overall unity and connection. The program is a combination of ecological strategies on the structures offering sustainability, energy efficiency and inclusive experiential paths within the structures.
