Designing a memorial grave of someone so close as your own father was one of the most difficult architectural proposal that I had to work with.
The aim of the design was for the visitor to escape from their grief by finding a moment of silence, to feel at peace with the place.
Including the logistics of a Greek orthodox memorial grave was challenging. Elements including a cross, a niche for an oil lantern, small storage for little necessary objects such as matches, a defined boundary _ outline of the grave, a vertical tomb plane, a photo, a text were some of the necessary ingredients that you are asked to incorporate.
Design ingredients:
Simple lines, minimal engraved elements [cross _ text], the inclusion of nature [flowers _ pubbles], natural materials [travertine marble], time.
Time is reflected in the beauty of the weathered rough surface of the travertine marble, seasons changing is evident by the plants that you are nursing, pupples communicate the visitor’s stories with the loved one.
A moment of silence is reached.
