RECONNECTING TO WATER
Elma Adele Dube, Ario Racho, Sande Masidza
This proposal aims to create a fabric system that reconnects the people in the site to the element of water. A key feature of the identity of the port. It creates multiple types of flows for different types of movement (walking, cycling or driving) at different speeds: going directly to a specific destination, transitioning through the site to get elsewhere or coming for the experience of being within the port.
It was critical that all these different forms and speeds of movement could coexist without any clashes. This resulted in the creation of a lightweight and atmospheric promenade at both entrances that stretched the experience of entering the site beyond one single point. Creating different levels of privacy for various activities along the way, by playing with layering and opacity of fabric materials.
