Library as a Social Hub_ Live Project
[human choreography as a key component of space investigation]
Arch202 second year studio, concentrates on the design of a cultural building. The topic focuses on the investigation of Library Spaces that act as a Social Hub. Students are asked to work on a Live Project, the future Library building of UNIC. The target is to both investigate the needs of the students of the University of Nicosia and at the same time question the role that a Library of an academic institution can play to the society.
With a main focus on designing a ‘Library’ as a Social Hub and the investigation of the potential role it could play to an active society, the semester unfolds in three parts. The first part focuses on the investigation of the typology of a ‘Library’ by questioning its programme and juxtaposing social uses. The second part focuses on ideas of perception and the impact of the body movement passing through space. And the third part explores materiality through the experimentation of skin schemes, light penetration and sectional void explorations.
